Sandberg Family Reunion

This was how we arrived in Utah. Exhausted. Although, we did have a couple days of respite at the Hardy's house before we came. The girls did the most amazing transfer at the end of the trip. They fell asleep an hour about before landing in Salt Lake. They transferred to the stroller with no problem... zzzz....then they transferred to the car....zzzz....then they transferred to their beds. Huge blessing. Especially considering we had a lot of fun and reunion craziness ahead.

First day of the reunion, we were able to go to the temple as a family. Here is my mom, sisters, and sister-in-laws minus Jen.

Here are the handsome men in my family...minus my brother Mike.

Matt and I at the doors and me looking very pregnant.

Natalie, cousin Lauren, grandparents and Matt went to the annual 4th of July balloon show down in Provo in the early morning hours while Amelia and I snoozed away at home.

My extended Sandberg family (my Dad's brothers and sisters and kids...lots and lots of cousins of mine and THEIR kids= a lot of people) had a reunion at Heber Valley Camp. Really nice, clean cabins. Beautiful setting. A lake to canoe and paddle boat on. Challenge courses. Great fun. Here is our family dance. Yes, that's right. I wasn't so sure about it...but I must admit my husband took the challenge on to make the dance mix CD and he actually did a good job. We had a ton of fun.

I just love Matt's face here. You have to understand...he is usually not a dancer. I'm glad to see he's loosening up in his aging.

Grandma dancing with Amelia. I did do a little dancing myself, even with my big belly, but there are no pictures to prove it. Thank goodness.

Amelia geared up for the lake.

Natalie geared up for the sand.

Matt and Millie take a paddle boat out.

Hi, Mommy!

My niece Katie, Matt and I in a canoe. I love lakes.

Moving Day

For those who don't know, we are in the process of moving from New York to Utah. This was the house we lived in while in NY for the past 3 and 1/2 years. It was a nice basement apartment and we loved our landlords and friends above us. Why the move to Utah? Matt has been accepted to BYU's MBA program. We are very thankful for the opportunity to live close to family for a couple years and reconnect, and to be able to attend a top 25 MBA program for the price at BYU can't be beat.

Rebecca packing up while 6 months pregnant. Actually, the truth is Matt did most of the packing. I just sat down in the middle of it here to make it look like I contributed. :) We had so much help from friends watching the kids and on loading the truck day. THANK YOU! Plus in the middle of trying to pack up the house, Matt had to take some online courses/tests as prerequisites for the MBA program. STRESS. But to his credit he did awesome on them! (Even with all the stress of everything else.)

Here are some of the troops of men that came to help us on a Saturday to load our truck and take the stuff to storage. Much to our surprise and embarrassment- it didn't all fit. Joe Hallaran saved the day and put the last couple things in his van. I still feel bad about torturing these guys that day though. They gave their entire day to help...it was hot...and at the storage unit they had teeny carts to use as they loaded all the stuff down an elevator to our unit. (I know...I know...) Believe me, I wasn't fully aware of the circumstances of it till that day. Thank you to all the muscle power and patience guys!

Matt with the guys again.

Goodbye little NY apartment...you served our family well. Good times were had and good friends made.

Farewell Dear Sally

There he stands. Boatlike. Off White. Majestic. A 1984 Buick Regal. Bench Seats. Room for 6 passengers. Sally- short for Salvator. You've served us well. We shall miss you, but we are leaving you in trusted hands. May your legacy live on and continue to spread joy and happiness.

Sally...oh sally... we love you.

After a good cleaning it was sparkling. Matt wanted to write it's name in the remaining dirt.

My Boy Baby Shower

In Mid-June my dear friend, Carmen Hardy, threw a baby shower for me at her lovely home. Here is a masterpiece present from Sarah Gounaris- a diaper cake. Inside is more gifties too- little toys and onesies. So cute and I was especially touched by the thought, time, and money it must have taken to make it.

Yay for boy clothes.

I was happy to bring Natalie with me to the party. She is extremely excited for a baby brother.

The food. Yum.

My friend Yolany Ponce and daughter Naomi. Yolany has a lot of faith and was always so nice and supportive to me. She is the new Relief Society President in Huntington. On my last Sunday at church she did the sweetest thing...she surprised me by having pictures of me at my wedding, with my girls, coming to New York...showing a progression of my family life and then saying that I had become part of the Huntington family. It was one of the nicest gestures anyone's ever done for me.

Me with Hailey Hardy...the game master of the shower. She was also a former piano student of mine and the ideal daughter (or babysitter) anyone would love to have!

Carmen Hardy...an amazing woman in every way! She is the one who threw the shower for me. Mother of six, fun, easy going, positive, hard working, so generous, giving, and thoughtful. Not gossipy and non-judgemental. One of my favorite people.

Sarah Gounaris with Natalie. I described why I love Sarah on a previous blog. I didn't mention how tough she is. Tough meaning....she does what is right even when it's hard.

Me with Kimberly Sim. She and her husband Richard made us the most delicious Korean BBQ right before I left New York. Kim is very generous with her home and food and loves hosting church activities and get-togethers. (She also has a beautiful home). She is an amazing mother, patient, organized and I LOVE her simple living...no clutter at her house!

Luella Pinelli with Kim. Luella is a gifted teacher and musician, has a huge heart and a lot of faith. She was also very supportive and encouraging to me and kind. We will miss her and Tony and will always remember them singing a duet at our Church Christmas party a couple years ago.  ("Baby it's Cold Outside".)   :)

Jill and Sadie Callaghan with Natalie. Sadie and Jill were some of our first friends in New York. We met them at a storytime at East Northport library. Jill is so generous and open. She has helped me with my girls many many times. She is a beautiful homemaker/decorator and I love going to her house. She is an amazing mother- organized, patient, healthy, fun, creative, and knows how to find a good bargain. :) I have learned so much from her and will miss her!

Ethel Macagnone and Lisa Miller. I've already said why I love Lisa in a previous blog, but I must add that we have LOVED game nights/dinner nights and just having some friends to hang out with and have a good time with when we were with her and Brian. Ethel has got to be the sweetest most giving woman ever! She has also helped me with my kids on many occasions, was always so supportive to me and made me feel smarter and better than I am. She is a good teacher. She has a huge heart and will help you with ANYTHING!

Carol Rebeck, Nicol Legakis and Ellianna Legakis. I LOVE these three ladies. Carol is so much fun. She is so giving, non-judgemental, beautiful in and out, I love and respect her in many many ways! Nicol is super intelligent, fun to talk to, intriguing to me, open minded, and kind. Elli babysat our girls all the time. She is also very intelligent, creative and a gifted artist. She is also fun to be around and a good conversationalist. Get the three of them together and it's always a good time.

Me with Amy Cannon and Janet Srinivasin. Amy just moved to New York about a year ago. She is an amazing woman and mother. She has triplets that are 7 years old and then a 5 year old . Her husband got called to be the Branch President in Huntington about 6 months ago. She has been very willing to sacrifice her time with him so he can serve all of us. She has a lot of faith, and is tough (deals with hard situations well). She also has a great sense of humor. Janet is super organized and always puts her family first. She has a beautiful smile and has always been very encouraging and kind to me.

I'm glad I got to share just a little bit of why I love each of these women. At the shower in addition to fun games, Jill had the idea to really embarrass me. They passed a ball of string around the circle of us, each of us tied it around our wrists, then everyone took a turn to say something they like about me or appreciated about me. I was very flattered and touched. I love each them so much and have learned more from their examples than I can adequately say. Jill explained that just like we were connected by the string we were all connected to each other in life and to me as a friend. Very thoughtful. I miss you all!! Thank you for all the generosity in gifts and kind words!

Hoyt Farm Sprinkler Park

We miss our New York friends dearly already. Here we are spending some of our last days there at Hoyt Farm with friends Lisa Miller and Jake, Sarah Gounaris and Caroline. We miss you!!

Sarah and Caroline. (Sarah and her husband moved into our branch over a year ago or so...I was quickly drawn to her laid back personality, sweet temperament, positive attitude, and kind spirit. She has helped us on numerous occasions, most recently on the day we packed up the truck. Thank you Sarah!)

Lisa was one of my first friends in New York. She's seen me at my worst and best and still loves me. Thanks Lise! I miss you.

Natalie making her own pool.

Who is the little chipmunk?

Amelia and Jake hug. It's meant to be.

Sprinkler fun.

Other New York Sites

The Upper-East Side. Where we might have lived should we have stayed in New York a little longer...yeah, right.

Matt and subway zooming behind.

Subway ride. I'm glad that my girls have been on a NY subway, train, ferry, and Matt and I went on the dinner cruise around the harbor...we never did get that carriage ride though in central park. Saving it for next time, right babe?

Pizza dining near the temple...I swear it was the BEST pizza I've ever had that day.

The pictures can't capture the flavor and yum. Thin crust, just a tad bit crispy....nothing like it anywhere else.
